Rate It Yourself!  See What People Said

Want a cool place to eat and hang out that isn't going to kill your wallet?
Try these tested youth-friendly places:

Heritage Coffee Company
Locations: 174 South Franklin Street
(Between the library and the movie theater downtown)
OR 5th Street (Across from Wells Fargo and next to Subway downtown)
Hours: 6am to 7pm Monday through Friday
What it offers: Heritage is a hotspot to hang out at if you enjoy soft leather couches, hot, caffeinated (or not) drinks and wireless internet.

Pel' Meni
Location: In the Merchant's Wharf.
Hours: These can be tricky. Usually open between 11am or 11:30am and 2:30am or 3am.
What it offers: If you find yourself out of your house late at night, and you have a craving for Indie music (or any of the hundreds of vinyl records), spicy (or not!), beef (or potato!) dumplings and a relaxed open environment, this is the place for you!

Costa's Diner
Location: Across from Pel' Meni in the Merchant's Wharf
Hours: Usually breakfast and lunch hours.
What it offers: Costa's is the ultimate choice restaurant. There is no real menu, so you tell the cook what you want and she cooks it. There is not exactly a set price either, so you pay as you can.

Wild Spice
Location: Up the hill from the downtown McDonalds, on the same side of the street and on the same block. 140 Seward St.
Hours: 11am to 9pm Sunday through Thursday, 11am to 10pm Friday and Saturday.
What it offers: Wild Spice is another great place for picking exactly what you want. For a set price, you get a bowl. There is a buffet-style line you walk through, and stuff your bowl with noodles, sauces, and raw foods. Hand your mound over to the cooks and watch them cook it up for you in a matter of minutes.

Silverbow Inn & Bakery
Location: 120 Second St., across the street on the up-hill side of Wild Spice, and across the street from Subway.
Hours:  6am to 8pm
What it offers: Bagels, drinks, soups, sandwiches, and free movies Monday through Wednesday at 8:00pm. (Hours may vary by season). Often there are concerts, poetry readings, music jams, and other events. This is a casual place to hang out, usually a little quieter than places like Heritage, and has a bit more food on its simple menu.
