What's this all about?
We, Shea Wilcox and Ariel Lyon, have chosen to make a "teen resource guide" for our Girl Scout Gold Award project. The Gold Award is the highest honor in Girl Scouting, similar to the Boy Scout Eagle Award. This project takes a minimum of two years to complete. The first year, we worked on all the prerequisites. Things like 30 hours of leadership and 40 hours of career exploration. There were also other badges and things that we had to earn before we could start. Next was the planning. We had to find an advisor for our project. It had to be someone other than Joy Lyon, who has been Ariel's leader since Daisies (kindergarten) and is her mother as well. Elsa Demeksa stepped up and has been meeting with us throughout the year. Without these two outstanding women, making it through this project would not have been possible. We would also like to especially thank Kristin Garot and Sara Chambers for editing, and Mary Tonsmeire for all her help.

JuneauTeen is still looking for a group to continue our work and keep this website up to date and running. The TRAIN group through AWARE,  a United Way group, another girl scout, or a high school health class would be a great candidate, as well as any other group who feels drawn to this project and want's to help out. We have made an editing guide in preparation for passing of management of our beloved site. If you are interested, get in contact with Ariel Lyon. If you know a group that might be a suitable candidate, talk to them and let us know. We feel that this is an important resource and hope to keep it going.

Through our years of high school, either we, or a friend of ours has needed just about every one of these resources or a friend of ours has. These aren’t places we made up or that asked us to do some advertising. These are worthwhile places that we found because a friend came to us and said, “I’m running away from home, I’m scared and I don’t know what to do,” or “Oh my gosh, I’m pregnant. This wasn’t supposed to happen to me!” and so we would talk to every organization we could find and they would give us a list of things to try, until we eventually worked things out. These are the places that worked for us and, in a sense, a record of our high school experiences. If we and our friends have used every one of these places, then chances are you or someone you know will need at least one before graduating.
